I have nothing to say with this indie film other than ” TANGNA!!! FINALLY ONE MARVELOUS FILM THAT EVERYONE SHOULD WATCH”
There are no words to describe when i finished the film. ALAS! i learned to hope and love again that somehow … and in some way ill find my BEN or my SAM for that matter, ill find HIM in a world where true love may have been another pigment of my imagination.
Yes folks … between farming at my cyber farm at FARMVILLE and updating status, i have been able to write this feature for a film WORTHY TO BE LOVED BY GAYS and STRAIGHT. Im inspired to create this review and i want the whole world to know how lucky i am to have watched such great film.
At first, i was hesitant since i have watched films after films from the gay community with nothing to show other than torsos, penis and good looking guys who does not know how to act. YES… and they are good looking, otherwise i may not have bought the video. But once i finally watched it … after spending every centavo of my hard earned pesos… I END UP DISSAPPOINTED. ARRGGGHHH. When will it ever end… (sana, i bought a Korean porno film instead as their boys are all delicious)
i always hoped for a Filipino gay film that somehow gave a hopeful and positive outlook like SHELTER and LATTER DAYS. Ang hirap kasi, wala tayong gay film na uulitin ulitin natin dahil na in-love tayo sa mga characters nito. Mabuti pa ang straight, maraming movies na pwedeng pagwaan tulad ng Sweet November and A Walk To Remember. But please, im not here to demoralize the indie Filipino Gay film society nor throw rotten tomatoes as we have produced some great films like ‘Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros’, ‘Lihim ni Antonio’, ‘Markova’ and ‘Walang Kawala’.
What im trying to say is, we have yet to fulfill our needs for a romantic film between two men that is well-produced complete – with a great cast of actor WHO KNOWS HOW TO ACT and a cinematography that is at par from well financed movies such as ‘IN MY LIFE’. Mahirap bang humuling ng ganon… alam ko suntok sa buwan pero pwede namang mangarap di ba…. The last time that i could remember is Joel Lamangan’s ‘PUSONG MAMON’ (Soft Hearts) starring Eric Quizon and Albert Martinez. But this film was way back 1998 and i have no recollection of any film that the same story lines that Lamangan have created. Baka merong iba na nag-attempt like the Queeriosity film outfit pero i dont think they came even near. And wala pa ata akong magandang review so far sa mga na-produced nilang films. Correct me if im wrong… pero i dont think showing men with skimpy underwear could ease out my thirst for great stories and well acted characters. Alam kong maraming lalaking gustong maging artista and gagawin ang lahat para lang magkaron ng exposure pero you cannot beat raw talent and a well written story to match the gay communities demand for QUALITY gay films. with much emphasis sa QUALITY
Going back to the film, the main cast (Ray An Dulay who plays BEN and Jess Mendoza played by SAM) has extremely delivered their character VERY WELL. They have developed the films character which we have learned to love from start to finish. You’ll fall in love as they slowly fell through each others arm and fight for their feelings. A world which they created … where we are slowly dragged inside it and learned the beauty of ‘love against all odds’
The supporting cast are great as well which helped established BEN and SAM’ s character which includes Ben’s attractive best friend Micah Munoz and Ben’s former girlfriend Tara Cabaero. Tara has a great resemblance to the fabulous Cherry Gil and i just hoped that somehow, someone from the TVlandia may have caught a glimpse on this review and will have any idea to pair the two. I bet they will be great villains if we combine both their monstrous acting capability. I could almost see how they could cook up evil ways in making any soap opera princess everyday life … miserable.
How would you forget Malou Crisologos portrayal of a principal. Those lines ‘i would like to see your parents next week… if you have any?’. Simon Ibarra‘s portrayal of a loving father whom each gay son may have dream of having one and Ana Abad Santos character that may have stolen the thunder. Her crazy portrayal of a mother who were torn by loving the man he has promised to love for a lifetime gave a comic relief with tiny pinches to your heart. i cant forget ‘i knew from the start ikaw ang TOP at BOTTOM ang anak ko…; then a loud boisterous laugh almost on the verge of shedding a tear and immediately changes his emotion to downright seri0us asking Sam; what’s so funny?
The cinematography is great. The music is marvelous. I love how the music and how does the camera tell its story to its audience. It slowly melts together and established its eternal love. You can no longer tell its difference once your attention were suddenly boxed in a world that was challenged by time and norms. Im sure by now that you knew that this was a tragic love story with a painful ending after reading post and blogs from other gay sites.
The scene wherein it shows the death of Sam has pulled all the stops as it gave closure for each characters who were involved in a world created by Ben and Sam. How it slowly delivers each pain that every characters had developed with each other. it hink by this time i was howling in front of my TV cursing Ben’s best friend. Roger… you may have a great body and a face that everyone dreamed ‘but you wil never be Ben because your filthy!!’ (sorry nadala na ako with my raw emotions)
