so this post is a celebration of coming out and embrasing once sexuality. To JP…may you keep us inspired for the rest of the days to come.

to know more about JP, here’s a brief bio from wikipedia following an excerpt from his interview at Instinct Magazine. Enjoy!

John Paul “J.P.” Calderon (born September 5, 1975 in Santa Monica, California, U.S.) is a professional volleyball player, model and reality television participant. He first appeared on television as a contestant on the controversial racially segregated Survivor: Cook Islands, the 13th season of the CBS reality show. Later, he returned to television by appearing on several episodes to date of The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency, and as part of his experience there he made an appearance in the February 2007 cover story in Instinct magazine.

Calderon grew up in Marina del Rey, California and attended California State University, Long Beach, where he played for the school’s nationally-ranked men’s volleyball team. He graduated with a degree in speech communication in 2000.

Calderon was an assistant coach for the Long Beach State University women’s volleyball team for five years. He began his professional volleyball career in 2004 and became a nationally ranked Association of Volleyball Professionals player.

On Survivor: Cook Islands, Calderon started off as one of five members of the Hispanic “Aitutaki” tribe. After the tribes were merged on day eight he became a member of the “Rarotonga” tribe. Calderon was the fourth cast member voted off in a 7/2 split.

In 2007, Calderon joined the cast of The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency. Stating that he had for a long time wished to model, Calderon came to an open casting call held in the first episode of season 2. He was called back in episode 2 and signed to the agency. In episode three, Calderon was approached to appear on the cover of Instinct magazine, a magazine that requires that its male cover models be openly gay. Calderon came out as gay on the cover of the February 2007 issue, including the cover, a photo spread, feature story and interview. “All of my fears, everything that I was scared of … it was the complete the opposite,” he said. “It’s been great. All of my friends, the volleyball world, absolutely everybody has been supportive. No one has shut me out.”

OUT & PROUD STORIES salutes ALBUS DUMBLEDORE

His name was derived from the word ‘Devon’ for ‘bumblebee’.  Like any names, it provides distinct chracteristics of a person since this individual wanders around his house while humming to himself – more like a ‘bumblebee’.

His true name maybe a mouthful and you need to breath deeply before pronouncing Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore or known as ‘ALBUS DUMBLEDORE’.  Created by British author J.K. Rowling. Albus Dumbledore is a fictional character and a major protagonist within the highly succesful Harry Potter series.  At the said series, he is the headmaster of the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and the founder and leader of the Order of the Phoenix“, an organisation dedicated to fighting the main antagonist of the series, Lord Voldemort.

On October 19, 2007, the said series which gave rise to the name of JK Rowling has finally revealed at the Carnegie Hall in New York that the said character has found ‘true love’ through a response to one of the questions of its adoring fan. She also explained that ‘true love was Dumbledore’s “great tragedy.”

Rowling also explained that she always thought of Dumbledore as being gay and that he had fallen in love with Grindelwald.   Though Rowling didn’t completely elaborate if the latter returned his affections. “He lost his moral compass completely when he fell in love and I think subsequently became very mistrusting of his own judgement in those matters so became quite asexual. He led a celibate and a bookish life.”

Not bad for an old dog.

OUTING ALBUS DUMBLEDORE

Yahoo News news by HILLEL ITALIE, AP National Writer; Oct 21, 2007 (Sunday)

NEW YORK – With author J.K. Rowling’s revelation that master wizard Albus Dumbledore is gay, some passages about the Hogwarts headmaster and rival wizard Gellert Grindelwald have taken on a new and clearer meaning.

The British author stunned her fans at Carnegie Hall on Friday night when she answered one young reader’s question about Dumbledore by saying that he was gay and had been in love with Grindelwald, whom he had defeated years ago in a bitter fight.

‘”You cannot imagine how his ideas caught me, Harry, inflamed me,'” Dumbledore says in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” the seventh and final book in Rowling’s record-breaking fantasy series.

The news brought gasps, then applause at Carnegie Hall, the last stop on Rowling’s brief U.S. tour, and set off thousands of e-mails on Potter fan Web sites around the world. Some were dismayed, others indifferent, but most were supportive.

“Jo Rowling calling any Harry Potter character gay would make wonderful strides in tolerance toward homosexuality,” Melissa Anelli, webmaster of the fan site http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org, told The Associated Press. “By dubbing someone so respected, so talented and so kind, as someone who just happens to be also homosexual, she’s reinforcing the idea that a person’s gayness is not something of which they should be ashamed.”

“‘DUMBLEDORE IS GAY’ is quite a headline to stumble upon on a Friday evening, and it’s certainly not what I expected,” added Potter fan Patrick Ross, of Rutherford, N.J. “(But) a gay character in the most popular series in the world is a big step for Jo Rowling and for gay rights.”

Gellert Grindelwald was a dark wizard of great power, who terrorized people much in the same way Harry’s nemesis, Lord Voldemort, was to do a generation later. Readers hear of him in the first book, “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” in a reference to how Dumbledore defeated him. In “Deathly Hallows,” readers learn they once had been best friends.

“Neither Dumbledore nor Grindelwald ever seems to have referred to this brief boyhood friendship in later life,'” Rowling writes. “However, there can be no doubt that Dumbledore delayed, for some five years of turmoil, fatalities, and disappearances, his attack upon Gellert Grindelwald. Was it lingering affection for the man or fear of exposure as his once best friend that caused Dumbledore to hesitate?”

As a young man, Dumbledore, brilliant and powerful, had been forced to return home to look after his mentally ill younger sister and younger brother. It was a task he admits to Harry that he resented, because it derailed the bright future he had been looking forward to.

Then Grindelwald, described by Rowling as “golden-haired, merry-faced,” arrived after having been expelled from his own school. Grindelwald’s aunt, Bathilda Bagshot, says of their meeting: “The boys took to each other at once.” In a letter to Grindelwald, Dumbledore discusses their plans for gaining wizard dominance: “‘(I)f you had not been expelled we would never have met.'”

Potter readers had speculated about Dumbledore, noting that he has no close relationship with women and a mysterious, troubled past.

“Falling in love can blind us to an extent,” Rowling said Friday of Dumbledore’s feelings about Grindelwald, adding that Dumbledore was “horribly, terribly let down.”

Dumbledore’s love, she observed, was his “great tragedy.”

OUT & PROUD STORIES salutes NEIL PATRICK HARRIS

He is a recipient of YOUNG ARTIST AWARD for three consecutive years (1990-1992) and was nominated twice for Golden Globes (1989 & 1992) and Emmy Awards (2007 & 2008).  He even knocks a nomination for Teen Choice Awards (2007) and Peoples Choice (2008).  The talented and funny man NEIL PATRICK HARRIS has nothing more to prove.

Though he is best known as a whiz kid – Doogie Howser, M.D. and currently as the womanizing Barney Stinson in How I Met Your Mother , HARRIS has proven admitting once sexual preference is NOT a persons eternal mistake.  It serves as a benchmark that being gay in the public’s eye is just a phase and NOT a career suicide.

In November 2006, after a report about Harris’ romantic relationship with actor David Burtka surfaced on an online site, Harris came out publicly in People magazine.  He explained that he had been openly gay in his personal life and in the theater community.  He explained, “[T]he public eye has always been kind to me, and until recently I have been able to live a pretty normal life. Now it seems there is speculation and interest in my private life and relationships. So, rather than ignore those who choose to publish their opinions without actually talking to me, I am happy to dispel any rumors or misconceptions and am quite proud to say that I am a very content gay man living my life to the fullest and feel most fortunate to be working with wonderful people in the business I love.”  Harris and Burtka have been together since 2004 and he refers David as ‘his better half and an amzing chef’.  Their first public appearnce as gay couple is through the 2007 Emmy Awards.

The clip below shows Harris appearance at The Ellen DeGeneres Show wherein he discusses his sexual preference.

OUT & PROUD STORIES focuses to T.R. KNIGHT

He is known as Dr. George O’Malley on ABC‘s top-rated medical drama Grey’s Anatomy, 35 year old  (born March 26, 1973) Emmy Award-nominated and Screen Actors Guild Award-winning American actor Theodore Raymond “T.R.” Knight affirmed his sexual orientation in  October 19, 2006 — after the mud slinging incident that involves two of his co stars including Patrick Dempsey and Isaiah Washington on the set of Greys Anatomy — when he released a statement through People magazine stating, in part, “I guess there have been a few questions about my sexuality, and I’d like to quiet any unnecessary rumors that may be out there. While I prefer to keep my personal life private, I hope the fact that I’m gay isn’t the most interesting part of me.”

Though the said issue was way past our bedtime stories, but it remains one of the most liberating stories in the gay community that keeps the rainbow flame alive and kicking.  Below is an excerpt on an interview with TR Knight published at http://www.foxnews.com last September 28, 2007.  At the bottom part of this post, you will find the clip (01/17/2007) wherein TR Knight appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and stated that Washington in fact had referred to him as a faggot on the Grey’s Anatomy set on October 9, 2006.  Before the said appearance at ‘The Ellen Show’,  Washington behemently denied the accusation when Ted Casablanca of E! Online inquired the said verbal incident during 2007 Golden Globe Awards. Washington said, “I never called T.R. a faggot. It never happened.”

I bet no one really believe Isaiah.

TR KNIGHT TALKS ABOUT BEING GAY…

http://www.foxnews.com; September 28, 2007

NEW YORK    T.R. Knight says he’s evolved as a person since announcing last October that he’s gay.

“I feel I’ve learned so much this past year, so I’m grateful for that — so, yeah, that changes you,” the 34-year-old actor said Thursday on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”

Knight, who plays Dr. George O’Malley on ABC’s hit medical drama, “Grey’s Anatomy,” announced that he’s gay after it surfaced that Isaiah Washington had used an anti-gay slur against him during an on-set clash with a co-star.

Washington, 44, was booted from his role as a surgeon on the show after he used an anti-gay epithet backstage at the Golden Globe Awards in January while denying he’d used it previously on the set against Knight.

He publicly apologized and tried to make amends by meeting with gay-rights organizations and filming a public-service announcement calling for tolerance.

Knight said telling the world you’re gay isn’t an easy thing to do.

“Everyone has their own path,” he said. “You just have to respect that. I know a lot of people who make statements but you have to do it when it’s right for you.”

Knight joked that he’s dating someone very close to “Grey’s Anatomy” co-star Katherine Heigl.

“Recently Kate and her fiance, Josh Kelley, and me and her mom went out to dinner … and it was reported that it was with me and my new boyfriend. But that was really her mom,” he told DeGeneres.

So I guess I’m dating Katherine’s mom right now,” he quipped.
