We’ve been drooling over this two hunks merged by a phenomenal gay soap opera that finally will bade goodbye to local boob tube as it counts down its final week – the Tom Rodriguez – Dennis Trillo love team that we’ve been gushing for more than 4 months now.
Who would have thought that they will even remain for at least a month and has been extended numerous times due to public clamor? No one knew!
It’s a first in the local telly that a whole country has gone gaga over two straight guys with their gay character at the highly successful soap “My Husbands Lover”. I’m just so happy that these two actors which I adore so much who gambled with their careers to bring in to life the characters of Vincent and Eric has been reaping success since from the start. They had proven that gay characters are no longer a hindrance towards success. Hoping to see Tom and Dennis in the local television and cinema.
It is the final week for “My Husbands Lover”. And I bet the whole gay community are awaiting the conclusion of the great love triangle between Vincent, Lally and Eric.
Who would have thought that a gay-themed soap opera would finally see a day when it will be telecast on a Philippine television wherein Roman Catholic remains the primary religion in a local setting? The country aside from Vatican has remained strong with its core family values and has yet to acknowledge divorce as a “law”. Never in a million years that I would have imagined two guys as main character and lovely young lady as the third wheel. So kudos to its writer/developer Suzette Doctolero and the master director himselfDominic Zapata who brings in to life the saga of three intertwined souls from the web of deceit, love, machismo, society and sexual orientation.
The soap wont be successful as it is without its stellar cast spearheaded by Ms Carla Abellana (as Lally),Dennis Trillo (as Eric) and the phenomenal star Tom Rodriguez (as Vincent) who found new success with its new network (GMA 7).
So again, congratulations to the makers of“My Husbands Lover”.
The newest gay-themed soap opera in the Philippines from GMA7 has been slamming network rating war against its biggest rival ABS CBN. The rival network has mastered heavy drama soaps which tickles love fantasy between the rich and poor while GMA7 may have engineered the fantaserye and korea-novela phenomenon that up until this time has been emulated by other networks but has never surpassed. GMA7 also had suffered long-time lull from the rating game since its core creative team and its artist were ‘pirated’ by two giant networks – namely ABS CBN and TV5. Though the latter network may have spent millions from their current talents, but it failed to bring in the much needed ratings and advertisement pull. No one thought that GMA7 has the guts to produce such show with its family-oriented theme that is evident in every soap they created.
Tagged by GMA7’s marketing and publicity department “Ang pinakamapangahas na teleserye ng taon”. True to its by-line, the soap stirred local aficionados curiosity and rocks CBCP’s sensibility to the topic. There was a time that I thought that it won’t even last for a month as the church demanded its pull-out from the mainstream media. The local governing agency MTRCB has been democratic enough to hear both sides of the story. The soap has been in ‘hot-seat’ since its inception cutting scenes after scenes which they viewed to be ‘indiscreet’.
But after a month of airing and thousands of tweets from its fans, the soap emerges triumphant. Its three main actors: Carla Abellana, Tom Rodriguez and Dennis Trillo found new fame with this new dramatic vehicle. Raves and reviews from fans and critics flooded the cyber world. Its supporting cast led by Glydel Mercado, Kuh Ledesma, Chanda Romero, Roi Vinzon, Karel Marquez, Kevin Santos, Victor Basaand the list goes on were also added to the mix. Truly an inspiring masterpiece from Direk Dominic Zapata and head writer Suzette Doctolero. Not to mention a string a creative writers including Marlon Miguel, Geng Delgado, Jason Lim, Jonathan Cruz and Michelle Amog. Splendid cinematography byRoman Theodossis.
I just hoped that this opus from GMA7 is the start of new and inspiring telenovelas and it reemergence from its long sleepover. I just hope as well that the marketing team of GMA7 would somehow use this vehicle to create new and exciting products including music and merchandize. I just don’t know what GMA record has been doing so far with such hug clamor over MHL’s mall show. Why did they not come up with a compilation of sorts dedicated for MHL? I know Carla Bellona is a non-singer but there are a lot of songs under their catalogue which are 100% owned by the recording company. It may not be aired during the soaps telecast but at least recurring theme about love, letting and betrayal will be a great marketing tool. Hooray to GMA films as they are already conceptualizing a film solely based to the three main characters of the soap. I just hoped that they come up with the right idea while they are still airing MHL. It may not be the same plot but the lobbying on the same theme. Why not a HORROR / SUSPENSE THRILLER for Dennis, Tom and Carla?
Anyway I’m just happy for GMA7’s success as I have been a huge fan of the network. May ebidensiya naman sa lahat ng post ko di ba….
‘i want to hold your hands’ Glee version is one of the best renditions i have ever heard so far. The powerful voice and superb performance of Kurt Hummel indeed crave me for more.
Naka-relate ako sa pinagdadaanan ni Kurt on this episode kasi i lost both of my parents so far. Ulilang lubos na nga kumbaga. And ang relationship ko to my father of me being gay is somehow in a gray area since he never knew that im GAY even from when he finally said ‘goodbye’.
the lyrics and how he delivered it is something i never had done and how i wish nagawa ko when he was still living. But i know somehow he may have been proud of me kahit na bading ako. You see, dalawa lang kami and ako ang nag-iisang lalaki na anak niya. Plus, i’m the only boy amongst the last generation ng family namin. Lahat kasi ng pinsan ko eh babae and ako na lang sana ang DAPAT na magpapalaganap sana ng family name namin. I feel na im a huge disappointment sa sarili ko and sa buong family..somehow.
Di ko na fulfill ang obligation ko to my parents but i hopw that i somehow make up for it since i single handedly support my sister and her four kids since my brother in law left them. I may not be able to deliver and hopefully give what they want pero i hope all my sacrifices for my family is enough for them to be proud of me.
I just hoped that i can tell my father that i do love him as well kahit na di ako yung pinangarap nilang maging anak.
i did not spend my holy week under the tuscan sun nor enjoy my free time walkin in the park. i did not spend my waking hours sulking over a dozen of beer nor did i feast to a basket full of goodies.
But i spend my Black Saturday watchin re-runs of BABAENG HAMPAS LUPA.
Directed by the one and only JOYCE BERNAL and ERIC QUIZON, comes the saga of two iconic families namely ‘The Wong and See Family’ as they outwit each other and tear each others life around. (Yup … you read it right… the family name is spelled out as ‘See’ and not your average Chinese ‘i-know-what-is-spelled’. It somehow reminded us the Fil-Chinese Tycoon who owns the biggest chunk of commercial lands – Mr Henry Sy.)
I’ve never been addicted to any dramatic soap opera since Cebu and Davao. I felt that Filipino soaps are cheap dramatic effort of each TV networks to stab our emotional strings ergo become a money making machine that delivers ‘so and so’ acting from starlets in showbiz kingdom. Kaya nga na hook-up tayo sa mga Korean drama series kasi they have sensible storylines and sobrang galing ng arte. Hindi pa cute-cute lang and they dont rely on their charm and popularity.
BABAENG HAMPASLUPA has the right chemistry of good actors and actress honed by time which includes Susan Roces, Eddie Garcia, Eric Quizon, Bing Loyzaga, Alice Dixon etc.
The storyline is somehow the same from average melodramatic formula which Filipinos often like. Dalawang angkan na nagbabangayan sa isat isa hanggang maubos yung kalaban. More of the ‘Romeo and Juliet’ formula as it convey love between two souls with great hindrance right between their legs. But this type of stories wont be successful if the actors in the story dont know how to act it right. And its near its end ..gawd!
